DIY SEO Guide – Step 2 Review your content
This is the second step to our DIY SEO guide. The first step covered was Keyword Research and you should check it out if you haven’t already.
Let me start by saying Content is King. Content truly is the King of the internet (along side Google of course!) and it is the reason people visit your website. Now that you have researched the keywords that you want to target, it is time to update and create content which include, reference and describe them.
All visitors to a website are consumers and what they are consuming is the content. So it stands to reason that if you have useful, interesting, relevant, updated content, people will want to visit your site.
Now let’s look at those descriptive words more closely.
Useful – When writing content for a website, ensure that all of it will be useful to your visitors. Obviously, not all the content on your website will be useful to every single person who stumbles across your site, but you would expect that every piece on content you add to your site will be of value to some of your visitors
Relevant – All the content on your site should be linked to the related goals of your website and your visitors. If you are running a modified car website, you would have a section of the site about sewing or gardening. Think about what your visitors would want to know more about certain topics of your website and expand from there.
Interesting – the exception to the above rules is interesting content. Don’t get me wrong, your content should always be interesting, but there are times where you want to share something that is not particularly useful to your visitors and not particularly relevant to your website. In this case, keep it short to avoid detracting from the topic.
Updated – Keeping your content fresh and updated is going to keep your visitors coming back again and again to read the latest articles or find updated specifications. Not only will your start to form a loyal following, the search engines notice too! Aim to update your website at least once or twice a week.
Here is a short video that contains some great imformation about writing content for websites.
I hope this has given you an idea of the important of great content and how it will benefit both your website and your visitors.
